Isabel Ratledge, sub-postmistress of Gayton, bequeathed her whole estate to the village for the sole purpose of providing a village hall and the village hall was subsequently built. It was opened by Mrs Hawley on 25 May 1957. And over the last 50 years the hall has been progressively developed, now providing the following facilities:

  • Main Hall, approximately 8m x 12m, accommodating 100 people seated.
  • Committee room, approximately 4m x 8m, accommodating 25 people seated.
  • Toilet facilities – ladies, gents and toilet for the disabled.
  • Two kitchen areas, main kitchen has a range cooker.
  • Car park that can accommodate up to 50 cars

The village hall is used for many purposes, including: Dancing classes, Band practice and Table Tennis. Other popular uses are parties (children’s parties, christening parties, discos etc) and fund raising events.

Careful management of the village hall over the past 50+ years has resulted in a well-maintained hall that boasts reasonable hire rates. Frequent users can hire the hall for as little as £10 for a morning session (9am till 12:30pm) and hire charge for functions start at £60 (£15 for children’s parties that last no longer than 3 hours).

Access: The Village Hall can be accessed by car from Hillcrest Road. In addition it can also be accessed by foot from the junction of Bugbrooke Road and Eastcote Road. The postcode is NN7 3HG.
