Village Messages

  • Gayton Neighbourhood Development Plan

    Good afternoon villagers,

I’m very pleased to be joining David Burrows, Carl Hamilton & Roger Clarke on the NDP team.

So far, we’ve received 94 responses to the village survey. To ensure everyone has ample time to share their views, we’re extending the deadline to Saturday, 24 May. We strongly encourage all villagers to take part—it’s vital that your voice is heard in shaping the plans.

You can complete the survey online using the link below or fill out the paper copy that was delivered to your letterbox.

Also included below are links to the presentation and meeting summary from the session held on 26 April, for anyone who wasn’t able to attend.

  • Gayton Neighbourhood Development Plan

    Village Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP)
Meeting at 11.00 am, Saturday 26th April

You are invited to a Village Meeting at Gayton Village Hall at 11.00am on 26th April 2024.

There will be presentations by the Gayton NDP team, Roger Clarke, Carl Hamilton and David Burrows plus guest speakers Henry Spurrier and Ed Dixon from the Gayton Estate.
The Neighbourhood Plan belongs to us all and so it is particularly important that as many residents as possible inform us of their views on what it should contain. So, with that in mind, we have produced a questionnaire, and the main purpose of the meeting is to explain how to fill it in. However, we will also be able to answer some of your questions about the process and the potential benefit to the village over the next decade. And remember, even if you come up with an idea that falls outside the scope of the NDP, we still want to hear as it may be something that the community can achieve by working together, as was the case with the extra defibrillators funded by the gum-ball
    rally.
The agenda for the meeting is:

    • Welcome and introductions – Carl Hamilton
    • Introduction to Neighbourhood Plan – Roger Clarke
    • The Gayton Estate – Henry Spurrier and Ed Dixon (guest speakers)
    • Questionnaire run through – David Burrows
    • Question and Answer session
    • Close of Meeting and thanks – Carl Hamilton

So, please bring along your thoughts on the future of Gayton and see if they correspond with some of our suggestions and we look forward to seeing you on the 26th.
    Kind Regards,
    NDP Team

  • Gayton Millennium Spinney – 4 April 2025

Glenyss & myself have been busy in the Spinney again, this time planting some Common Dog Violets and Wood Sorrel along the back hedge, you may notice the little clearings to help give the plants a chance to get established.

The Primroses are looking good, as are the Lesser Celandine and a few daffodils, and the Hibernaculum has ‘greened-up’nicely.

Colin & I also planted some Winter Aconites recently between the Hibernaculum towards the sign, protected by some little wigwams.

On a lovely spring day the Gayton Millennium Spinney is a lovely place for a walk or just sit on one of the benches and simply enjoy the sunshine.

  • Would you like a new WI in Gayton ?

It is an exciting time to join the WI and as it is some time since there was a WI in Gayton, we’d like to find out if you’d like to be part of a new WI in the village.

The WI is open to all women over 18 years of age and offers a wide range of activities from learning new skills to campaigning on issues which matter to our members. In recent years we have tackled issues such as Climate Change, Modern Slavery, Autism and ADHD in women and girls, and many more.

WIs have monthly meetings and also form interest groups with topics such as crafts, walking and even eating out. Whatever appeals to your members.

If you’d like to come along with existing friends or to meet new people and make new friendships, please let us know. If there is enough interest we’ll have an introductory meeting to tell you more.

Nearer the time an Entry form will be available from our Show Secretary, Tom Rathwell.

More details will follow but at the moment the timings are looking like this:

Thursday 14th final day for entries to be submitted.

We are planning to do a Ploughman’s Lunch, so if any clever person can make and donate us some homemade chutney that would be great. We’re hoping to have salad etc from the allotments so I’ll be putting out a plea for salad produce nearer the time.

There will be a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin competition and possibly a dog demo.

We are hoping that we get as many entries for the show as possible and that some more ideas for afternoon activities will be forthcoming. Our next meeting is 7.30 at the Village Hall on June 19th. Please come to the Meeting and help us make it a successful event and hopefully one that can become an Annual event once more. We even have the original over-all Winner’s Shield on which the last date is engraved 1987….who wouldn’t want that on their mantelpiece!
