  • Would you like a new WI in Gayton ?

It is an exciting time to join the WI and as it is some time since there was a WI in Gayton, we’d like to find out if you’d like to be part of a new WI in the village.

The WI is open to all women over 18 years of age and offers a wide range of activities from learning new skills to campaigning on issues which matter to our members. In recent years we have tackled issues such as Climate Change, Modern Slavery, Autism and ADHD in women and girls, and many more.

WIs have monthly meetings and also form interest groups with topics such as crafts, walking and even eating out. Whatever appeals to your members.

If you’d like to come along with existing friends or to meet new people and make new friendships, please let us know. If there is enough interest we’ll have an introductory meeting to tell you more.

  • Gayton Produce Show – September 16th 2023

Please see attached the Categories List for our Produce Show which will take place on Saturday September 16th and is open to all Gayton residents, not just Allotment and Gardeners Society. As you will see there are a lot of categories to enter, including the usual favourites (wonky veg) and quite a few children’s classes as well. Nearer the time an Entry form will be available from our Show Secretary, Tom Rathwell.

More details will follow but at the moment the timings are looking like this:

Thursday 14th final day for entries to be submitted.

Saturday 16th 9.30 – 11.00 entries to be brought to the Village Hall.

    11.00 – 1.00  Judging

    1 – 4 ish  Open to public

There will be lunches, tea/coffee, light refreshments and some indoor stalls including pottery, jewelry, children’s activities, art and crochet. Please save any items you may be able to donate to the Raffle

We are planning to do a Ploughman’s Lunch, so if any clever person can make and donate us some homemade chutney that would be great. We’re hoping to have salad etc from the allotments so I’ll be putting out a plea for salad produce nearer the time.

There will be a Guess the Weight of the Pumpkin competition and possibly a dog demo.

We are hoping that we get as many entries for the show as possible and that some more ideas for afternoon activities will be forthcoming. Our next meeting is 7.30 at the Village Hall on June 19th. Please come to the Meeting and help us make it a successful event and hopefully one that can become an Annual event once more. We even have the original over-all Winner’s Shield on which the last date is engraved 1987….who wouldn’t want that on their mantelpiece!

Click here for the Schedule of Classes / Categories List.

    Happy Gardening,

    Hilary (Sec)

  • Chain Gang

There are a group of “willing volunteers” who are helping to keep the stiles, footpaths, pavements & footways in the Parish clear. We have been restricted recently due to poor weather but therea re some stiles that need some maintenance as well as the footways on Blisworth Road and Back Lane that need some attention. We tend to work weekdays as the team are all retired, However, I do plan to offer some dates at weekends to attract others.

I understand that “Chain Gang” is not very PC as it smacks off slavery. I have consulted the Cambridge dictionary and can confirm that the definition is “a group of prisoners who have to work outdoors outside the prison whilst tied together with chains. No mention of slaves. An apt description of our Gaytn group!

  • Gayton Church Heritage Trust – Just Giving

Gayton Church Heritage Trust is seeking to raise money for much needed improvements to the Church including upgrading the heating system and replacing the boiler. Fundraising has been difficult this year due to the pandemic, so to make it easier for anyone wishing to donate to the project a JustGiving page has been set up. If you would like to help us raise funds to improve the facilities so that the community and school can make better use of the building throughout the year, please visit the page by clicking the link below.

Many thanks for your support. www.justgiving.com/gaytonchurchheritage
